Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2017

"One of the best vintages I've seen." The words from Steve Flamsteed when we exchanged a few messages a couple of months ago. Naturally, I put remarks such as those in my back pocket - I knew they would come in handy for future reference. And then the first of his 2017 releases come through the door. And he wasn't wrong. Damn, if the Chardonnay vineyard blend is this fantastic, those single vineyard releases are going to be something else!

Not a hair out of place here. The fruit comes from the Applejack, Gruyere Farm, Sexton, Tarraford and Wombat Creek vineyards. One whiff and I'm in heaven. The majority of sample bottles have no more than a glass taken from them. This bottle was drained to the last drop.

Struck match, vanilla, slivers of almonds and humming with grapefruit and white stone fruit. From gate to post this is a winner all the way finishing long and dripping in class. Chardonnay fans will rise as one for this.

Drink now to five years.
