Jim Brand Glenroy Shiraz 2013

Glenroy is on the northern outskirts of the Coonawarra region. The fruit for this wine comes from a small vineyard.

Those who have been to Coonawarra would attest that the region is dead flat. The vineyard providing the fruit for this wine is seen as one of high-elevation - just one metre higher than the rest of Coonawarra. That's a fact - don't laugh!

Made in American and French oak, 50% of which is new, old boots, black fruit with baking like spice adding some warmth.

Tasted blind in a line up with a range of other Shiraz wines, I was surprised this was upstaged by a couple of others. I preferred one half the price to be honest.

There's nothing wrong here mind you - nicely cut, density and length whilst well balanced.

Would I buy it? Not for that money. I'd have a glass happily mind you.

Drink now but will cellar long term.

91/100 - Very good
