Need I mention 2014 was a ripping year in the Hunter Valley? This is a cracking wine to match.
From a sustainable, low yielding vineyard, organic practices are applied. 40% whole bunches were met with 12 months in French oak (25% new).
There's some power under the bonnet here. It's sophisticated too. Earthy with a lick of aniseed, dark berry fruit is partnered by chocolate and some smoked meat. A smooth ride that's neatly balanced.
While it will drink well now, there's at least a decade of cellaring in waiting. 200 dozen produced.
Small sips will trade for big smiles here. Superb drinking.
