Golden Grove Vintage Grand Reserve Mourvedre 2012

This is a big wine which could go either way. Some may be wooed by its boldness whilst others may not see the appeal. I thought it was a good wine but it didn't blow my socks off. And really, I didn't think it stacked up to the standard of the others in the Grand Vintage Reserve range.

It's a bit stinky; boot polish like. Add to that some sour and baked cherries, spices, and cedary oak. The fruit coats the mouth well but just doesn't have that X factor I was hoping for, though some of those classic Mourvedre traits are present. If anything it needs time to see its best where it will soften and show it's true form.
