Huntington Estate Tim Stevens Shiraz 2017

Back to it for 2021. Happy New Year all. It probably makes sense to open my account for the year with an impressive wine. Here we have the Huntington Estate flagship all the way from Mudgee. A keeper, this will reward the patient.

I looked at this over four days and its development over that time was captivating. Scents of caramel and malty oak early, it's a super smooth and seductive wine. Raspberries and dried cranberries on day one and two with cedar and dutch chocolate coming to the fore later. Aniseed and dark cherry step forward late in the piece too. Some good depth and concentration is met with a gentle medley of exotic spices. Long and persistent, big and firm tannins are handled well softening over time. A wine for the long haul which will continue to improve with bottle age.
