Balancing Heart Ambrosial and Lush Sagrantino 2017

From the Granite Belt's oldest Sagrantino vineyard comes this release from Balancing Heart.

The site was first planted by Preston Peak wines. The vineyard was sold a few years ago and renamed Balancing Rock after an eye-catching rock formation in the vineyard. Most recently, the business has changed hands once again with Greg Kentish buying the property and renaming it Balancing Heart. Some big plans lay ahead for the site with the intention to build some accommodation and another site has been purchased across the road to plant more vineyards. Exciting times.

To the Sagrantino...

Pretty purple flowers, cola, earthy, biltong, fennel and tea leaves. Broad and muscular, as expected, it softened slightly over a few days of tasting. Still drying and firm, a puckering finish saps moisture from the mouth. A powerful wine, a persistent finish just hangs. Cold night by the fire kind of stuff but I'd lean towards a steak over the coals. You choose.
