Oliver's Taranga Shiraz 2016

Hearty stuff. This is like getting a big cuddle from your big and burly Uncle Bob.

Upon opening it was like a caged lion - in your face. The Tony Abbott shirt fronting type (not that big Tone ever follows through with his words). Politics and wine reviews don't mix. Moving on...

Bold dark fruit plus dark chocolate on the 70% cocoa side. Blackberries and mulberries walk at ease with star anise chipping away before ribs of tannin roll in. The generosity is what makes this wine so appealing and inviting.

Over two days of tasting it continued to soften. Some more time in bottle will see it shine furthermore. Interestingly, cedar and caramel were prominent on the first day but dissolved to be almost invisible on the second.

This is cold night, big food and big cuddle sort of stuff. Me likey.

Drink 2019 to 2027.
