O'Leary Walker Polish Hill River Riesling 2017

Organically grown, this Polish Hill River Riesling comes from a vineyard some 9km down the road from the Watervale site. Two quite different sites producing great wines nonetheless.

This vineyard has been organic since the 70's but only certified five years ago. The slate in this patch of the Clare brings its point of difference, so too the later ripening period of up to three weeks.

Curiously, the 2016 saw the wine sitting at 11.5% alc. This 2017 is at 12.5% alc. In fact, there was 30 days difference between picking for 2016 and 2017.

Not as taut as previous vintages, this more finesse and elegance. The expected lick of riverstone doesn't disappoint. Bath salts, lemon sherbet, tonic and a smidge of cucumber. Limes and slatey feels drive hard. A little bit of pith raises the brow. Apple sours and talc to finish - lots going on here. A winner.

Drink now but will age if desired.
