Hello Storm King Wine Co! A side project for Ray Costanzo and his wife Jen, these wines are about small batches that are handcrafted using traditional techniques. Here we have a cracking debut Vermentino release that shows vitality, textural interest and wonderful savoury appeal.
Sustainability is key to their values and the packaging comes from recycled materials - even the labels are made with a portion of grape marc. Costanzo prides himself on his Vermentino for his Golden Grove Estate wines, but he cranks the dial that bit more here.
Lemon balm, musk and white pepper lay a foundation before white stonefruit and delicate creamy feels meander through. The mouthfeel has impressive width matched by a seemingly endless finish. Bone dry, I would happily sip this slowly as the sun slowly fades on the day. And perhaps I may have just done that. Lovers of textural Vermentino, or textural whites for that matter, ought to get themselves a big comfy chair. Showcasing the capabilities of the Granite Belt in a different light, this is great stuff.
Drink to three years.
