A straight up and down McLaren Vale Tempranillo which sees ten months in French oak (5% new) and 10% whole bunches used.
To my surprise, it's missing the edgy factor seen with many of the Samuel's Gorge wines. Some savoury characters chime in with good dark fruit and dark chocolate but it's all a bit flat-lined. Sapping tannins draw moisture from the mouth. Make no mistake, it's a smooth wine that's easy to drink. I'd say it's a solid barbecue wine but it's a hefty price to pay for that privilege.
Drink now to six years.
