Lightning Tree Saperavi 2018

Saperavi is a Georgian variety gaining some good traction in Australia. Pair this a roast beef or hearty casserole and happiness with follow in hot pursuit.

What I really enjoyed about this wine was the multiple layers of interest which continued to unfurl. Time in the glass and a couple of days tasting really brought out its best.

Scents of canned plums, blackberries and sarsaparilla kicked things off. There were aromas of fruit cake too, some may even suggest it's moving down the porty road but at 13.5% don't jump to conclusions. In the mouth star anise, Szechuan pepper and fine cinnamon spice reach out with dark berries and fruit swimming deep. Some tension through the mouth points to ageing potential before grippy fine grained cocoa tannins plonk themselves on a long finish almost refusing to move.

This will continue to develop with bottle age and will easily kick on beyond ten years.
