Mitchell Wines Kinsfolk Riesling 2017

Mitchell Rieslings are always a treat to behold but I'm not so sure about this new Kinsfolk release.

The Kinsfolk range is a modern take on traditional varieties made by Mitchell but this Riesling has dialled up the creativity a little too much for mine.

It's thick and syrapy (to use a word) rather than clean, crisp and refreshing - words often used to describe Rieslings. With 12 grams of residual sugar, think yellow flowers, honeyed tones with a canned syrup type feel. There's a lemony concentration, a bit like cordial, a glass is where I'd max out. But that's me.

Drink to five years.
