Tellurian Tranter Shiraz 2024

Heathcote is a region that has avoided my grasp for a little while, so it's great to see a few wines from Tellurian hitting the Qwine tasting bench once again. This Shiraz is excellent! For 45 bucks, hunt this down with gusto.

From experience, those red Cambrian soils that define Heathcote can sometimes overplay their hand, but not here. Nor is there the typical touch of eucalypt I so often find in the region. Instead, this Shiraz is all about polish, precision and remarkable focus. It’s drinking beautifully now, yet there’s no doubt it will reward time in the cellar. Blue fruits take centre stage with plums, sour cherries and a teasing hint of baked raspberries, all woven with a savoury edge that keeps you coming back. Oak has been handled with finesse, adding fine woodsy spice partnered by a lift of black pepper and a whisper of barbecue rub. The finish lingers gracefully, coaxing you toward another sip. A poised, confident wine that impresses with ease and without extravagance. Go here.
