The Yarra Valley has found a happy home for Nebbiolo. This is the first time I have seen one from Denton Estate.
A ripe and meaty expression of Nebbiolo, it opens with assertive aromas of dried petals. The fruit shows generosity and warmth, creating a sense of richness that lingers across the palate. Smoky tones, a touch of licorice, and a granite-like minerality add some grip and intrigue.
It sits firmly at the mid-palate, though the flow feels a little interrupted before stretching out into an elongated finish. There is character here, yet it comes across as a little bitsy. Despite revisiting it over several days, it never quite found its rhythm for me, particularly after the excellent Chardonnay that set a high bar.86/100
