A masterpiece. An extraordinary wine. This is Scott Boland in a bottle - line and length hitting the top of off stump all day. Not many wineries have two incredible Chardonnays in their portfolio to compete with one another like this, but these Oakridge 864s are in elite order.
Focused and pure, this Chardonnay captures the essence of the red soils from the Henk block in Woori Yallock. Lemons and lemon juice lead the charge, joined by white-fleshed nectarines and a twist of pink grapefruit that keeps things lively. A faint nuttiness drifts in, offering raw cashews with just a flicker of almond meal to add a gentle complexity. The fruit simply sizzles with energy. There’s no struck match or overt reduction here, just clarity and precision. The texture and weight are superb, gliding through the mouth with a Mediterranean tonic-like grip that’s refreshingly moreish. It’s a pristine, modern expression of Chardonnay - focused, balanced and utterly captivating.
