Tasted alongside the Primrose 2022, this 2023 is a little more expressive than its predecessor which speaks more of the vintage. A most impressive take on Barossa Valley Shiraz, I preferred this one of the two.
Luscious and dark from the outset, this wine unfurls with mulberries, blue fruits and blackberries wrapped in baking and woodsy spices. Cloves, dark chocolate and a thread of licorice root add further allure. Compared to the 2022, it’s a touch more expressive, and that prominent ironstone edge speaks clearly of the soils from which it’s grown. A wine of depth and character, decant to drink now or hold for a decade plus.
