Serious density and concentration from Eden Valley, this Hutton Vale Farm Shiraz was tasted over a few days, and each time I went back, the more it impressed. Hold or give it a good decant, either way you're winning.
The fruit was handpicked from vines planted in 1968 with the cuttings taken from the famed Mt Edelstone vineyard and it spent 19 months in French oak (25% new) before two years in bottle prior to release.
A brooding and generous delight, dark plums, blackberry pie and baked blueberries make quite the opening statement. Dark chocolate, mocha, licorice, vanilla, flashes of coconut and shimmers of Christmas cake unfurl seamlessly to delight the senses. Fine spices and baking spices wrap things up in a neat parcel and drive long to an elegantly smooth and incredibly moreish finish. Just brilliant!
