I thoroughly enjoyed the 2021, but this 2022 Single Vineyard Shiraz from Wykari of Clare raises the bar. What a delicious, comforting and detailed Shiraz that seeks to provide all the conversation points needed for a cosy night.
From a dry-grown site, it sees a combination of French and American Oak. Melted Dutch chocolate is as prominent as it was in the 2021. Dark berries, blackberry compote, Christmas cake and fruit bun spices muse delivering a wine of sophistication and comfort. A ball of delish rolls around the mouth with silky feels and fine, dusty cocoa-like tannins offering some chew to consider and pique further interest. Not to be outdone, a lick of raspberry coulis raises its hand late adding a neat touch.
The asking price seems ludicrous to me - way too low. Get it while the going is good and before vigneron Peter Shearer comes to his senses.
