From a former school principal turned fulltime vigneron, this is a beautiful Clare Valley Shiraz from Wykari of Clare. Measured density with drive and presence, there is a boysenberry compote heartbeat that has me fixated. This is crazy good buying for $28!
With an impenetrable colour, the fruit concentration from dry grown vines is clear and obvious.
Silky smooth, give this a chance to breathe and you're in business. Melted Dutch chocolate, black cherries, blackberries and handfuls of boysenberries set the pulse beating. Cedar, sandalwood, coffee grounds and some dried leaves along with an ever so fine rub of earthiness add to the detail. Cocoa like tannins cling to a soft and generous close leaving the palate saturated with moreishness.
Some wines need food, others just need a mood. Give me an autumn sunset, birds wrestling in the distance readying to roost and a gentle breeze as you kick back, relax and reflect. For 28 bucks this is a steal. Not available in retail land, this is an excellent find and a small producer worth following. Big love.
