From the southern Barossa, the Fierce III wines come courtesy of Lou Miranda. A generous type with broad shoulders, this is indicative of the warmer climate where it is grown.
It sees American oak (40% new) for 26 months with the sweeter oak nuances seeping through into the wine. It opens with smoked meats, carob and licorice. Cedar, woodsy spices and some pine needle come courtesy of the oak with a good wash of fruit cake and dense plums not far from the action. There is some muscle, but it gradually softens over a few days of tasting. Find a generous piece of protein and you're set. It's well done.
