Brilliant! Just brilliant. Going through the Chapel Hill range, it is clear that The Devil eclipses all. With a wine named The Vicar surpassed by The Devil, this is no religious thing, just be assured that 'the devil' is in the detail.
Winemaker Michael Fragos is in peak form here. The fruit is sourced from Chapel Hill's original Shiraz plantings - a 0.8 hectre block. Fragos knows his dirt, his region and his craft. This is easily the best wine I've seen him produce.
Black and purple fruits stain the palate with joyous abandon. A riot of boysenberries and mulberry compote is parcelled up by fruit bun spices. The oak melts into the frame with ease as nimble powdery tannins dry out ever so subtly. The shape, feel and flow only highlight the precison and class. Devilishly smooth, pardon the pun, but the silky feels are insanely lacey and attractive.
