The Two of a Kind from Thomas Wines is a great barbecue wine or a reliable midweek slurp. Fabulously medium bodied, you'll mop up the bucketloads of fruit with ease.
The origins of the blend stem back to when Thommo's father, Wayne, plied his trade in McLaren Vale. He even won the Bushing King twice - some feat! The blend is a tribute to the Thomas family's past and now its current form in the Hunter Valley.
A 58/42 blend that is Hunter Valley dominant, a chorus of red cherries, blueberries and squishy mulberries leap from the glass. Add baked berry tart, red earth and sweet spices before the denser McLaren Vale component sweeps through. Smoked meats and red plums add some muscle to the frame.
The longer it sits, scents of purple flowers rise up and chocolatey tones wriggle forward with a sheet of delicate spice casting a net over a lengthy and moreish finish.
Retailing for $25, this is quite a bargain (Thomas Wines members pay around $20 which is a steal). Go here.
