Head to the Polperro cellar door and look out to the vines and you'll be surveying the Talland Hill vineyard perched 170 metres above. A wonderful set of Chardonnays are produced by winemaker Sam Coverdale and this release gets the nod slightly ahead of its Mill Hill sibling.
Certified organic and biodynamic, the fruit was hand picked and wild yeast fermented in seasoned French oak where it stayed for 12 months before racking and bottling.
White fleshed nectarines, barbecued peach, a faint suggestion of golden apple and a little poached pear lurks in the background too. Some cashews slide in with lemon myrtle and a some green mango add intriguing touches. A pastry like creaminess and a minerally feel is a consistent feature and one I keep embracing. Lemon juice and lemon cordial work in unison with a yellow grapefruit juice tang and fine ginger spice on a lengthy finish. A Chardonnay with a cool vibe and a classy swagger, it's a damn good expression.
