Focus and detail are the buzzwords here. An exceptional The Merle Riesling from Pikes despite the challenging vintage, it maintains its elite status.
Frost was the culprit early in the growing season, not to mention the dry conditions. Despite all this, the end result is exceptional.
Limes, lime zest, green apple and Bickford's lime cordial. The fruit purity sizzles with a fine quartz and slate minerality running through the core. A bounty of white flowers continues to diffuse from the glass urging you back for more. That perfume is hard to escape, so naturally I return, time and again. The acidity is precise, cleansing the palate with the ease of a brush stroke leaving a fine trail of talc in its wake. Enjoy now, but this will age gracefully well beyond a decade should you choose. Gorgeous stuff.
