A caress in a bottle, you'd snuggle up to this with a Sunday roast at your mercy, but a Friday night wind down or cosy night in front of the fire are certainly not out of the question either.
A blend of Cabernet, Shiraz, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo sourced from King Valley and Beechworth vineyards, this is a blend that certainly shows the sum of the parts. An articulate and intelligent wine, it's considered with some old-school appeal. Blackberries and blackcurrants, tobacco, Bay leaf, leather and pan juices are framed by an array of fine spices along with delicate and drying tannins. That length is moreish deluxe and I keep coming back to those tannins - clearly the hand of Nebbiolo playing its part. Admittedly, I poured this well over an hour before tasting - it's best to respect the Pizzinis for what they do best as time elevates their red wines. Although it already has three years of bottle age under its belt, this will live well beyond a decade. A terrific and captivating drink.
