Grown on Terra Rossa soils in the north of the Clare Valley, this is a savoury-driven Enterprise Cabernet Sauvignon from Knappstein Wines.
What caught me on the hop with this wine was that it lacked the vibrance or black fruit energy I was expecting. If anything, this seemed one-paced and potentially a little more developed than I suspected.
Earthy, tar, leather, olive leaf plus black olives make the first impression with some black fruit tucked in behind. Dark chocolate and barbecue spices flank the edges and it takes a while for the mixed berry fruit to build momentum. Dusty tannins sit long on a persistent finish. It needs a good decant to see it at its best.
