Deliberately picked on a Fruit Day (as per the lunar calendar), this Nord Shiraz from Carlei Estate is organically and biodynamically farmed. A savoury driven wine, it was great tasting it alongside its Root Day sibling.
It saw French and Hungarian oak for 18 months before bottling.
Scents of cured meat, beef stock and char open the account. Dark chocolate slides in with some leathery touches. Firm through the mouth, the fruit is dense with dark plums and black cherries the main players with the flicker of some sweet blackcurrants. Possessing a respectable length, ribbons of exotic and brown spices slowly unravel the longer they sit. Drying, grippy tannins have the last word. A wine with broad shoulders, age will not weary this Shiraz for some time.
