This is a delightful Mill Hill single vineyard Chardonnay from Polperro with plenty of textural interest and complexity to keep the juices flowing.
From one of the highest sites in Red Hill (270m above), that word texture keeps reverberating as I taste. Lemons, lemon myrtle and limoncello make a welcome introduction that builds intrigue and comfort all at the same time. Cashews, slivers of fresh ginger and a splash of ginger beer are joined by faint glace pineapple. A line of saltiness stretches through the core along with a minerally vibe and barbecued nectarines rise up with time in the glass. A tonic like texture is the heartbeat as a delicate creaminess takes a back seat and a grapefruit tang has the last word. This is a really tidy and thought provoking expression of Chardonnay. Big love.
Drink to eight years.
