The Vicar has long been the Chapel Hill flagship but only to have its title wrestled away by The Devil in recent years. Still, it is a brilliant wine in its own right and an icon of the brand, this 2022 is drinking superbly now and it will continue to evolve for many years to come.
A blend of the best Shiraz parcels, it sees a combination of French and American oak for 20 months.
Blackberry pie, black plums, dark chocolate, coffee grounds and flickers of cedar. It's a generous wine that is luscious with a measured graciousness. Grainy and powdery tannins flex some muscle. They are soft enough to seduce yet tense enough to propel this into the future for many years of cellaring. It's a fabulous McLaren Vale Shiraz.
