This is my first look at these Kyberd Hills wines from the Mornington Peninsula and a very positive impression has been made.
Handpicked from a Main Ridge vineyard and whole bunch pressed, it sees French oak for nine months (15% new).
From the outset, creamy is the word as it wraps itself around your soul. Custard powder, wafer biscuits and a fresh baked pastry vibe set the tone. Grilled nectarines, white fleshed stonefruits, dribbles of lemon juice with soft yellow grapefruit tang sliding in. Some almond meal and brioche chime in with time in the glass leading to a lengthy and persistent finish. It's a Chardonnay that offers much to consider and muse over. Autumn sunsets and a cheeseboard are the go but it will take down a roast chook with just as much ease.
