Aromatically stunning, this Xinomavro is nothing short of impressive. It's the second most planted red variety in Greece, and the Barossa's Paulmara Estate is the only producer in Australia to have it in the ground. A rare and distinctive variety such as this deserves your attention.
A medium-bodied variety that is suggested to be the Greek equivalent to Nebbiolo, captivating aromas of Black Forest cake, blackberry jubes, port wine jelly, rosella and a whisper of dried red petals have me leaning in. Succulent layers of black cherries and Morello cherries offer depth and vibrancy on the palate with juicy, voluptuous tannins demonstrating that Nebbiolo-like powder. Drying yet incredibly moreish with a sheet of fine spices curling around the mouth, this is drinking wonderfully now and will continue to develop over the medium term. As these vines continue to mature (first released in 2019), I suspect this will gain a horde of fans in quick time, particularly at this most humble pricing. Great stuff.
