Cassis, juicy blackberries and earthy notes are in full cry as I swirl the glass. It's a wine with a softly, softly approach without bludgeoning you with ripe fruit or high alcohol. Pizza sauce and dried herbs continue to reveal the savoury nuances that make this Cabernet so appealing. Puffs of earthiness and shards of dark chocolate add detail and delight as French oak imparts char and vanilla characters. The dusty tannins, although firm on opening, demonstrate some flex and agility and I'm all here for that. Their shape and presence elevate the wine. The structure and balance demonstrate that this is built for the long haul, and I have no doubt that those tannins will melt into the frame with ease. An excellent Coonawarra Cabernet!
