A bit of Vanessa Williams factor here with her song, "Save the best til last." One of the best Cabernets I have tasted this year, what a great way to see out 2025.
Tasted with a brace of Cabernets of similar vintage, the hallmarks of Margaret River proudly leap from the glass. Another excellent Flametree SRS Cabernet release.
Awash with Bay leaf, dried thyme, sage, blueberries, blackcurrants and cool mint tones via that old school classic mint pattie, not to mention the vibrant and heady scents of violets and dried purple flowers. Layers of interest continue to unfold with dark chocolate, black olives and licorice. There is a precision about the oak too - yes!
Despite its youth, all elements have fused together neatly, but time will certainly be its friend beyond a decade+. The cocoa powder tannins are fine-grained, structured and demonstrate an incredible persistence and possess all the hallmarks to melt into the frame in the years to come. Give it the time it deserves and you'll be rewarded and then some.
