Closing out 2025 with review number 760 (my biggest year yet!) and what a way to finish! This Flametree SRS Wallcliffe Chardonnay is nothing short of exceptional, welcome it with open arms.
While some Chardonnays from Margaret River have drifted beyond reach for many given their lofty price points, this is one to earmark as a worthy alternative delivering quality and continued high-level consistency.
An enticing and sophisticated wine with fruit purity and handfuls of concentrated delight, struck match and a flinty edge open the account. White-fleshed nectarines, ruby grapefruit, lemons and pear juice muse. Almond meal, brioche and licks of popcorn add interest, but I'm fixated on the custard-like creaminess. Delicate ginger spice rolls in, wave after wave, building intrigue and a delightful moreishness. This will only improve with more time in the bottle, which is a thrilling prospect given its current poise and elegance. Brilliant drinking and a fitting finale to a very busy yet rewarding 2025.
