An impressive Eden Valley Chardonnay with a cool tone and swagger, this Heggies Estate is the best release I have seen of this wine to date.
Freshness and purity are the buzzwords, but there is a faint nod to the old school with some caramel buds tucking in behind the main players. Meyer lemons, zippy grapefruit and white fleshed stonefruit work in unison delivering a wine that is sophisticated yet strolling along with a suave disposition. Don't serve it too cold and sheets of flavour start to reveal themselves. Pineapple husk, meringue and ruby grapefruit step forward. Winemaker Marc van Halderen strives for chewy acidity and he has nailed the brief here. It's an enthusiastic recommendation from me.
