Renzaglia Wambuul Shiraz 2024

This is a really cool wine. I love its genuine personality. It's not polished within an inch of its life, nor is it trying to be a Shiraz like every other. Credit to its maker, Sam Renzaglia.

Produced in the Wambuul Valley, Wiradjuri Country, the Wambuul is the name of the fish that swim through the waters of the Campbell and Macquarie Rivers. I love indigenous history, such as this, and the sense of place it shares.

A slurpable delight, it's a seamless sheet woven with interest and joy in equal doses. Dark cherries, baked raspberries, dabbles of plums and a sleek smear of mulberries set the scene on first inspection. A fine mist of peppery and barbecue rub spices caresses the palate and seemingly takes a back seat enabling other aspects to shine. But fundamentally, there is no hero here as all elements fold into one another with ease. Fine dusty tannins are brushed on the palate as a parting gift of sorts, calling you back for another sip. And why not? This is incredibly delicious. An extra point for the big smile and joy it brings. It's a wine that I enthusiastically recommend.
