This is TarraWarra's first Nebbiolo release. It comes as a result of an under performing Pinot vineyard planted in 1989, K Block, where 50% was grafted over to the now highly consistent K Block Merlot in 2006. 25% of the remaining vineyard was grafted over to Barbera in 2012 and the other 25% to this Nebbiolo.
Welcome to savoury city! Take a whiff and the nasal cavity is swarmed by outback dust, dried rose petals, twigs and a suggestion of dried mushroom. More time in the glass brings a red fruit perfume. Chalky and powdery tannins drive the bus, and here lies the key - give it some time to breathe. I liked this much better on the second day of tasting as a result.
There's years in the bag here and time will be your friend.
91/100 - Very good.
