I tasted this alongside the d'Arenberg Custodian Grenache 2013. A good exercise in many ways. The Custodian coming from McLaren Vale and this GMS from the Barossa.
This Grenache Mataro Shiraz blend (45/45/10) sits in older seasoned American oak before being refreshed in French for a total of 18 months. Not fined nor filtered.
A spicy sucker, the fruit is lighter here but that spice bangs on hard. Dried strawberries and raspberries, blackcurrants, baking spices and a kick of earth. Black pepper spice carries it home. It would wash down a spag bol or pizza easy.
Drink short term.
Good.
