Margan Breaking Ground Barbera 2014

Andrew Margan was the first to plant Barbera in the Hunter Valley dirt back in 1998.

A solid wine this. Medium bodied, it's plummy, has a whiff of old boots, a lick of spice and sour cherry like flavours to finish. There's nothing overly complex about it, just a stand and deliver type. The dryness on the finish sneaks up quickly but sits long. Too long and detracts from what has come before. A hard sell for $40 I must admit, I'd rather run over broken glass to the Shiraz Mourvèdre over this considering they ask the same money.

Drink now and over the next five to eight years.

Good.
