Draytons Bellevue Grand Reserve Semillon 2017

A mate brought this round to share. He was gifted it by a friend who received it as a free bonus bottle from one of those online clearance stores. A $90 bottle was thrown in for free... Naturally, we were both curious.

The bottle in my hand is different from that seen in the bottle pic too. I'm not sure what's happened there either. More curiosity...

In the glass, it comes across as over-extracted if that is at all possible. Quite developed for its age, that aged Semillon characteristic of kerosene is quite prominent. There is some weight through the mouth with some key lime pie, lime paste and lemon butter highlights. Add some lanolin and waxy feels, there is some interest but I've seen some decade-old Semillon much fresher than what I have here. But hey, this was a freebie, maybe for good reason? Alas, some pan-fried fish with herb butter would go well.

Drink to five years.
