Smackdown Carignan! This is a variety McLaren Vale does well and is getting more and more airplay in recent times. Often blended away, in the right hands it sings. One could say FU if you don't agree... Grab one of these, it's a fab drop.
Medium-bodied, it will take a slight chill in warmer months. I love the fine spices it kicks out - they shimmer through the mouth. Dry and rustic, it's earthy with plum skin feels, red currants, lillypilly and purple fruits. Dusty tannins and dried herbs reach long and clutch to a persistent finish. Get out the barbecue and char grill some steaks or it will take down your prosciutto di parma pizza just as well.
