Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz 2012

This is the 13th release of the Prodigy Shiraz.

A solid wine but it doesn't grab me the way you would anticipate a $100 wine would.

Feels warm with plummy and compote fruit. Stewed even. Nicely integrated oak though. There's a slight mintiness in the background. Clove, subtle char, dark chocolate. The fruit is soft and wrapped up by talc and brick dust like tannins. It's long in the mouth but that warmth lingers.

Age is in its DNA. A decade minimum in the bag here but not too much more I suspect. It comes across a bit further on than I would have expected.

91/100
