De Beaurepaire Victor Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

From De Beaurepaire's oldest vines on their Rylstone vineyards comes this big Cabernet.

And big it is. Coming in at 15% alcohol, I got a sense it was perhaps more than that. Brooding and brutish, it doesn't hold back. It smells of fresh fruit cake, Christmas cake if you will, those big plummy and blackberries make sure they are front and centre. It feels stewed and weighty - density is no problem at all. Quite old school in its make up, there is a rush of spice late. Perhaps a steak will tame it?
