One of my astute readers reached out to ask if I had tried this wine after he read a review on another site for the 2023 vintage. In fact, I tasted it with winemaker Simona Troiani at Fontaleoni's cute little cellar door in San Gimignano's Piazza della Cisterna back in July last year. Scrambling through my notes, it seems I haven't published my reviews from this quick tasting with Simona. I'll rectify that.
A ripping bargain for €16, this 85% Sangiovese sings with vitality and a vibrant charm. A brief 3-4 month stint in large format French oak keeps things bright and energetic. Juicy red cherries, crunchy red apples and a zippy line of acidity make it dangerously drinkable. Smart gear. Very tasty. Great buying for ~$25-30 AUD.
