Angove Warboys Vineyard Shiraz 2021

Featuring bevelled edges and dangerously smooth lines, this Warboys Shiraz grew on me deluxe. I could be talked into another point. Clever stuff that is modestly priced, time in the cellar will reward.

Coming off 30+ year vines with their feet in the dark loam over limestone and dark alluvial loam McLaren Vale soils less than five kilometres from the ocean, the Warboys vineyard is organically and biodynamically farmed.

It sees French oak for 16 months (30% new) and is bottled without fining and filtration.

Blackberries and black olives set the tone on opening with a shimmer of red fruit bowling along in the background. The oak plays its hand with char and chocolate brownie but it's not as pronounced as what I saw in its stablemate, the Angels Rise Shiraz

Dark berry fruit cascades effortlessly in waves framed by dried thyme and sage. Fruit bun spices gain momentum leaving a memorable finish in its wake. That lengthy finish provides much to enjoy and consider - winning! A cuddle for the insides, this is a comforting embrace from an old friend that just feels good. Decant for now or cellar with confidence for a decade+.
