These Single Vineyard Pinots from Lyons Will are in excellent order, not to mention the Estate blend.
The vines sit 510 metres above, this 2.5 hectare block is mostly planted to the Abel clone, then MV6 and 777 (60/20/20). It sees 20% new French oak. Only 75 cases are produced.
Expressive and inviting, a melange of plums, sour cherries, pine needles, black tea, tilled earth and sauteed mushrooms make quite the opening statement. Some dark chocolate wriggles forward late, but the savoury presence and drive of this wine is enthralling. Silky, graceful and ethereal in its shape and flow, delicate spices shimmer to all corners of the palate. Fine, silty like tannins cling to a finish that seems never-ending. That length is incredible.
This is a superb cool-climate Pinot Noir.
