Youthful Merlot from Queensland's Granite Belt.
Like that puppy on lead for the first time, you get a sense that this raw Merlot is still thrashing about. Perhaps it's been released too early? Even on day two of tasting it still seemed like it hadn't been tamed.
Cassis, blackberries and dark plums early but are swooped on by big (big!) sapping and drying tannins. All moisture is drawn from the mouth. Those tannins point to a long future mind you. Perhaps this is a wine that will start to hit it's stride in 2022? That's when I'd like to revisit it.
