I had never heard of Lindsay Wine Estate until this sample arrived. Such new labels are always welcome at my door, and in my glass more particularly. A dense and concentrated type, age will be its friend - and it proved that.
I looked at this over four days, and damn, it softened into its own skin beautifully. Tense initially, it kicked the shoes off and made itself at home.
Dark berries, mulberries, chocolate and baking spices highlighted the wine early in the piece. But over a few days, blackberry, some aniseed and clove purred through to a long and soft finish. Earthy and undergrowth kicked in for good measure but the Christmas cake and fruit pudding, which were also prominent when first opened, seemed to chill out and settle nicely.
