Soumah The Butcher 2016

If I owned a winery I'd name a wine after me. Why the hell not? That's what Soumah boss Brett Butcher has done here, and good on him. A blend of Syrah, Cabernet and Nebbiolo - I like his style.

Not usual bedfellows you'd admit, but it works a treat no less. A blend of 44/33/23 doing the job here seeing oak for 18 months, 50% of which is new.

Scents of violets, beef brisket, leather, dark berries and soft spices. Meaty and char characters in the mouth with suggestions of Five Spice. Dusty tannins slowly meander through the mouth, lingering long.

Such a great drink for a cool evening beside food or reclined in your chair absorbing something on the tele.

Drink now to ten years.
