Gartelmann Sarah Elizabeth Chardonnay 2018
An excellent Chardonnay from Orange, NSW, which scooped the pool at the region's 2019 Wine Show.
Barrel fermented in new and one-year-old 500L puncheons and 300L hogsheads to achieve subtle oak integration before being matured for 10 months with lees stirred every month.
That time in oak has imparted barbecued peach and creamy notes. Generous squeezes of lemon juice roll through, but what strikes me most is the weight. Some barrel fermented Chardonnays carry some baggage and are overly dense - not here. There's a delicate presence about its swagger. Vanilla, dehydrated pineapple and yellow peach linger long with a lemony tang. Very impressive from top to toe.
